Ingredients Glossary

The Acids

 

Mandelic Acid: Derived from bitter almonds and the gentlest of all the acids. An alpha hydroxy acid used to exfoliate the skin. It is used to treat acne, pigmentation and aging skin.

 

Hyaluronic Acid: Found naturally in the skin, it increases the skin’s moisture content and prevents water loss helping skin to retain a moist hydrated look. Has the ability to hold 1,000 times it’s weight in water. Found in serums and creams.

 

Salicylic Acid: A beta hydroxy acid that helps with acne and exfoliates the skin’s surface. Can be found in cleansers, moisturizers and treatments for acne prone skin.

 

Lactic Acid: Made from fermented milk, an alpha hydroxy acid exfoliates but is gentle enough for sensitive skin or rosacea. Can treat acne and reduce fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and age spots.

 

Glycolic Acid: An alpha hydroxy acid derived from sugarcane. An exfoliating agent used in lotions and chemical peels. Can reduce the appearance of age, spots, acne scars and irregular pigmentation. For acne and folliculitis, can clear up blocked pores and prevent future breakouts by keeping pores from getting clogged again by dead skin cells.

 

 

The Minerals and Vitamins

 

Vitamin E: Also known as Tocopherol is a moisturizing antioxidant that prevents cellular damage from occurring. Protects skin barrier and epidermis from UV damage.

 

Vitamin C: A protection antioxidant that helps brightens and improve hyperpigmentation.

 

Vitamin A: A natural form of retinoid. Helps to smooth out the texture and tone of the skin. It is a natural anti-oxidant.

 

Retinol: A healing antioxidant that helps with skin cell turnover and regeneration to reduce signs of aging, helps with sun damaged skin by boosting collagen in the skin. Used as an anti-aging product.

 

Antioxidants: Vitamins, minerals and enzymes that reduce free radical damage to the skin. They act as free radical scavengers to neutralize free radicals’ particles that damage the skin.

 

Niacinamide: A form of niacin and vitamin B3. It strengthens the skins outer layers and improves elasticity, reduces redness and irritation.  Helps control sebum and oil production in the skin.

 

Zinc Oxide: A mineral in sunscreen that prevents UVA and UVB light from entering skin and doing damage. 

 

Montmorillonite Clay: A natural clay that contains over 70 trace minerals. Has natural antibacterial properties and the poultice action pulls infection from the skin.

 

Ascorbyl Palmitate: An effective free radical scavenging antioxidant that is a Vitamin C derivative. Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating the growth of fibroblasts that help produce collagen and elastin.

 

 

The Naturals:

 

Shea Butter: Derived from the Karite Tree found in parts of Africa. Used to soften and smooth the skin. Creates a skin barrier and protects from environmental pollutants.

 

Marula Oil: Derived from the Marula Tree found in South Africa. Contain naturally rich antioxidants, vitamins and minerals such as vitamin E, and C. Use as a moisturizer for skin, hair and cuticle oil.

 

Apricot Oil: Has a high content of Vitamin A (retinol) and E. Helps skin ease the look of fine lines and wrinkles and gives a radiant glow.

 

Geranium Essential Oil: Antibacterial and  Ant-Inflammatory. Helps with acne, redness and dryness of the skin. Oil must be delivered with a carrier oil to the skin. Never put an essential oil directly on the skin.

 

Cinnamomum Extract: Has antibacterial, analgesic, antiseptic, antibiotic, and astringent properties. It is also a powerful antioxidant that helps with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

 

Sweet Almond: Derived from sweet almonds. A carrier oil used to blend essential oils or during massage. Contains some Vitamin E that can help with lines and wrinkles.

 

Pineapple Extract: Contains Bromelain a natural enzyme found in pineapples. A gentle natural exfoliates used for dry dull skin, and help shed dead skin cells.

 

Turmeric Extract:  An Indian spice containing curcumin  used as a skincare anti-oxidant that aides in clearing up acne, lighten the skin and decrease redness.
